Miami is famous for its nightlife, celebrity hangouts, but it is often not viewed as a great vacation destination for families with children. This is most unfortunate as there is so much for parents and kids to do in this famous city in the Sunshine State. Here are just a few of the best reasons to visit Miami with the family:

Beaches — This one is a no-brainer. Though there are certain areas of Miami Beach that might not be good for children because of those who like to catch some rays in the buff, there are several other beaches that are great for kids. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park on Key Biscayne is a favorite family-friendly spot that ranks among the top beaches in the entire United States. At Matheson Hammock Park Beach in Coral Gables, guests can enjoy sand, water, mangrove trees, and more.

Animal Life — Miami’s Metrozoo features 327 developed acres of wildlife from all over the world, and both parents and kids can enjoy hours of watching tigers, monkeys, and other species at the zoo. Not to be missed while at the zoo is the Wings of Asia Aviary that features 300 different species of birds from Asia. While on the subject of bird-watching, children will also love Jungle Island. Formerly known as Parrot Jungle, this attraction features parrots and other exotic birds, crocodiles, and more. A show featuring a cockatoo riding a little bike on the high wire is definitely one of the highlights of a visit.

Unique Homes — Vizcaya, a mansion built by wealthy industrialist James Deering in the early part of the twentieth century, has delighted visitors for decades. Its beautiful grounds and palatial rooms will wow many visitors. There is also Coral Castle in Homestead, a home Edward Leedskalnin built out of 1,000 tons of coral rock that has to be seen to be believed.

Many more family-friendly aspects of Miami could be highlighted. But as is evident form this short list, Miami is a great place to take the kids.
